Operation Homeless Check Fraud

WOWT Channel 6 of Omaha, Nebraska is reporting on scamalertOperation Homeless Check Fraud. According to WOWT News, nationwide check fraud scam that preys on the homeless hits Lincoln, Nebraska.

Police arrested 54-year-old Paul Bellew Tuesday. Police say he and two other men cashed fake checks at two Security First Banks last Friday. It cost the bank $21,137.

The day before, they say Bellew was approached by two men who offered to put him up in a hotel and pay him, if he cashed the checks. After he cashed the checks, police say Bellew was paid $450.

Lincoln Police say this scam is happening all over the country, costing banks tens of thousands of dollars.

“This group is loosely associated with other groups across the nation, committing similar schemes under the name Operation Homeless. Losses have been reported in Kansas City and St. Joseph, Missouri,” Officer Katie Flood said.

More arrests are expected. Police know the identity of the other two men who worked with Bellew.
At this point, they do not know who is printing the checks and collecting the money.

It is our deepest regret that ED Magedson founder of http://Ripoffreport.com Ripoff Report and THE EDITOR of the site has decided to aid those who seek to destroy scamFRAUDalert by providing them a platform for them to publish FALSE and misinformation or whatever nonsense they choose about scamFRAUDalert.

To our disbelief, these are the same group of individuals disseminating FALSE information about Ripoffreport.com – See Youtube Video and with whom Ripoffreport.com have had several lawsuits and court ordered judgments against. We have common enemies ED base on our mission as consumer advocates.

We are referring to the owner(s)/operator(s) of the sites below with whom ED Megadson has allowed to post whatever they choose about scamFRAUDalert which Mr. Megadson had denied posting such garbage in the past. Reason for ED change of heart, SFA refusal to retract Google DMCA replied response.

Recently, Better Business Bureau has received a pattern of complaints for this company that allege billing, advertising, service, repair, contract, and customer service issues. Complaints allege this business allows individuals to file reports about businesses and individuals that consumers may state are not true on the company’s website: http://www.ripoffreport.com. Some complainants report that when they contact the company regarding the removal of the reports, the business may inform the complainant that they must pay a fee (usually $2,000), to have the report removed and/or arbitrated.

Some complainants state that their personal information, such as an address or a phone number, may be listed in the report. Additionally, some complainants allege an overall difficulty reaching the company when problems arise. At this time, a representative from Ripoff Report has indicated to BBB that the company will not work to resolve customer disputes through BBB.

I receive a call first thing this morning (Christmas Eve no less!) stating, “Your entry has won! Go to http://winbigbb.com and http://BestBuyBonus.net ~ v522 and enter code 1122 to claim your $1000 Best Buy gift card!” I skeptically entered the URL into Google and all of these scam and fraud alerts showed up. I also saw that they are asking for your first and last name, email address, and your cell phone number. That is a lot of personal information that a scamster or hacker can use against you. I never entered a best buy contest so it is obviously a scam. You don’t get something for nothing people

Based on our investigation, it appears like BackToFun.com dba Back consumer alertto the Caribbean is a marketing company that sell vacation packages for Las Vegas, Florida and the Caribbean Islands including Aruba. They also attempt to sell you timeshare.

The complaints against this outfit is that some of these vacation packages expired without further notice. When consumer notified RBF regarding expiration, they got no assistance in resolving this.
